How to fix Wordpress white screen of death Issue

This is a common issue that most of the Wordpress developers or anyone new to blogging using Wordpress. Wordpress white screen of death is a nightmare when you are busy with coding/ editing your existing code. If you are a blogger and not used to editing code or have no knowledge on coding then it's always better to leave this portion untouched.

Wordpress white screen

Wordpress white screen of death is a situation where we just see a blank white web page and will not have access to anything related to your website from your Wordpress UI. Webpage and all it's sublinks will just show a white blank page. You will not be able to access even the Wordpress dashboard. The same white screen will appear to all your website visitors. This can have a bad impact on your revisit traffic as people may unsubscribe from your website.

This usually happens when we try tweaking the template/ theme source code. During my earlier days of blogging I used to get this Wordpress white screen of death issue whenever I tried modifying the code as I wanted to customize UI the way I wanted. My website was down multiple times and all my visitors could see was a blank white screen. It took really long time to understand what went wrong and had a hard time fixing this during my initial days of blogging.

There is nothing that you can do from your Wordpress UI or from dashboard to fix this issue. The only solution is to login to your hosting server and identify the file that you were modifying. If you have a backup of your Wordpress website then you can try replacing the file that you were trying to modify. It's good to keep a backup of your Website data, if you are not sure on how to do this then check - how to backup WordPress Website and Data.

This issue can occur even if there is simple semicolon missing. So, be careful when you modify the code. Unless you are very sure about coding do not touch 'Appearance >> Editor' option in your Wordpress dashboard. Also, before you modify anything on hosting server, make sure you download a copy of your old file as backup. Best thing is to backup your data manually once in a while on your own and save it some where safe, maybe in one of the cloud storage.
