How to update Samsung Android Firmware

Have a Samsung Android phone and waiting for an official Samsung update. Then this will be a wait for a while, as Samsung will usually take around 6 months to update your phone with the latest Android version. You can always get the lastest version of Android from outside but if you are waiting for an official update from Samsung for your Android SmartPhone then you will get the customized version of Android developed/modified for your phone. Best example would be some of the apps like SNote, SPlanner, SChoice, Paper Artist etc. that are developed for Samsung SmartPhones like Galaxy Note having Stylus Pen. Before installing the latest Android update people like me would have watched many previews and reviews and eagerly waiting for their phone update for months, but trying some of the new features on your own is a totally different experience.

Once there is an official update from Samsung the first thing that we do is to check if the battery is fully charged. Next is to connect to WiFi and go to Settings>> About Phone>> Software Update>> Update. On clicking update, you might get a message to continue with the update or a pop-up message saying "Access to software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later" as shown. This can be very disappointing for a person who is waiting for an update for months and that too when we know that there is an update available.

There is a workaround for this to get your software updated to the latest version of Android provided by Samsung.

  1. Download and install the latest version of Samsung Kies in your machine (PC).

  2. After installing Kies, connect your device to your PC where Kies is installed.

  3. Kies will now detect you SmartPhone and check for an firmware update.

  4. Kies will show your current version and the latest firmware version that is available for installation.

  5. Now click on update with/without backup option.

  6. Firmware will now be downloaded to your SmartPhone and installed (without the above message), this might take some time depending on the network speed.

Note that not all Samsung Android Firmware update that you get is an operating system update. Samsung or other manufacturers might release software, security or patch updates as well. So, confirm first if the Samsung Android Firmware update that you got is an OS upgrade or just another security update. Also, note that the firmware update that you get is country/region specific. So, check if it's released for your country or not.

  1. Hey buddy, thanks for the quick download link for the flash file.
I've been unable to download it from any of the previous links I found on other sites.

  2. Faced the same thing and followed your solution. Found update on kies and downloaded and installed it. It took around 5 hours at 40-45 KBs per second download speed. But the phone has not been updated to 4.3 JB yet! It is still running on 4.1.2.
Just the CSC has now changed to MK1.

Please tell me why did this happen and what should i do next?

  3. I doubt if the upgrade that you got is an OS upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3.. it must be just a security n bug update that you got..confirm that first. Even the security update file will be as big as the OS.. I have got multiple updates of this kind for my Galaxy Note.
    Or
Looks like the installation did not work.. see that u don't interrupt in between when the installation is in progress.. n also.see that battery is fully charged..

  4. The download was completed perfectly without any obstacles or interruptions.
The firmware update popup/notification dint specify anything about 4.3JB or anything lyk security patch.
Anyways i think i will have to talk to samsung people regarding this.
