- DOS installation from Microsoft is a set of 3 floppy disks. You need to have a floppy disk drive before installing which is hard to find unless you have an old machine. Insert the first installation floppy which is a bootable disk in the floppy disk drive and switch on your computer.
- Now, from the boot from option select floppy Drive. Microsoft DOS setup menu will appear. Continue with the setup process and select 'Configure first hard disk'.
- You have an option to backup your files now. You can press F3to backup and Esc to review your options. To continue with the DOS installation press Y on your keyboard. You system will restart, hard drive will be configured, followed by restart of your machine again.
- Configuration check will be done and your hard drive will now be formatted in FAT16 file system.
- Check or fill the correct details like time, date, country etc. and select 'Settings are correct' option. It's better to leave the default directory location for DOS installation. Your computer will now copy all the files and will continue with the installation. You will be asked to insert the next disk till all the files are copied. You will get a message to remove floppydisk once all data is copied. Restart your computer and your DOS installation is complete.
