Eye Fi memory card for wireless transfer

eye fi memory cardSome of the latest cameras come with built-in WiFi which is good. Using WiFi you can transfer photos from your memory card to any WiFi enabled device. But what if you already have a camera which has no built-in WiFi? You can always buy a wireless adaptor and connect it to your camera, but this may not be supported by all cameras.

Eye Fi is one wireless memory card which can support most of the devices. It is just like your normal SD memory card but has a built-in WiFi in it. And this wireless SD card can be used in any camera - from the basic point & shoot to your high end DSLR cameras. Once a photo is taken it will be instantly uploaded to your WiFi enabled mobile device. You can download their Android, iPhone and Kindle app for free from their website or from the respective app store. Note that for the apps to work you need to have a card first.

Google had earlier partnered with Eye Fi to make it easier to get your photos into the cloud. You can transfer photos and videos through wireless and upload the same to picasa or other photo storing and sharing websites. It also includes automatic geo-tagging, so you will know exactly where the pics where taken.

As of this writing 8GB and 16 GB cards are available for 50 and 80 US$. I would like to try one sometime soon and hope it's available at-least in one of the online stores here. RAW images consume more memory and using this will never make you run out of memory. I would say it's worth the money as you will never run out of memory and easy to install and carry. If you are a photographer then this will come very handy. Give it a try if it's available in your location.
