I remember once while travelling by night bus to my home town - Mangalore from Bangalore, had to keep myself awake just to make sure that my stop has come and I don't miss the place. It takes almost 7 to 8 hours to reach and I prefer to travel at night after my office hours so that I can spend more time with my family. There were many cases when people where in deep sleep and they even forget sometimes that they are in the bus or train and don't even bother to look at the place outside. I usually use Google Maps - Navigation to identify my location and the destination (at night), but sad thing is I need to keep myself awake to check each time and have been looking for something like a location alarm which can alert me once I reach my place.
You don't have to worry about this next time if you have got an Android Phone and obviously enough battery backup. Using your Android phone you can set location based alarm. Don't forget to keep your GPS and network on (I have tried with 2G and it's is more than enough) and also see that you keep your batteries fully charged. Follow the following steps to set location alarm.
- Go to Alarm settings on your Android device.
- Scroll down and enable 'location alarm'.
- You get a pop-up "Attention" message, tap OK.
- Now type in the location or destination in the maps and tap on Done.
- Once you reach the place that you have entered, your phone will wake you up with an alarm.
Remember to set the exact location like Lalbag, MG Road, Mangalore instead of just Mangalore. I would recommend to set the location to a place 5 minutes before the destination place so that you can get ready to get down. Try this feature, it is useful and also, you can have a good night sleep when you travel next time.
