How to limit background processes on Chrome browser

If you are using Google Chrome browser and had earlier installed too many apps and extensions from Chrome Store, then there might be cases where you browser might slow down a bit. Even though each of these apps or extensions have a separate process or sandbox, it's always better to uninstall unused apps or extensions as it will run as background processes.

To find out and limit all the background processes in Chrome browser, all that you need to do is navigate to Settings >> 'View background Pages'. Here you will find a list of all the processes or tasks that are open, the memory consumed by each of the tasks and many other details like CPU, Network, Process ID, FPS etc. This will help you in identifying the task that is consuming the maximum memory and CPU usage. And if you are not working on a task which is consuming high bandwidth, you can always select that particular task and click on 'end process'. Killing a process will clear memory and CPU usage which can now be used by other tasks and hence will speed up other tasks.

Under Task manager, each new tab, extension or an app that is open will be considered as a separate task. If you have multiple Chrome profiles, then under Task manager only the tasks of a particular profile from which task manager was selected will be shown and not tasks from other chrome profiles. To view tasks or background processes from other profiles, select the profile that you want and then select 'view background pages' to view background processes of that particular profile. The tasks that are listed looks similar to your windows task manager and this is one of the easiest way to find out all the open tasks and prioritize tasks.
