I use Nikon D600 full frame camera and the article that I have written here is considering this camera and it's built-in camera software. This is the same for almost all Nikon cameras and other DSLR camera models might also have similar options.
Capturing images using RAW (NEF) format is always better when compared to JPEG as JPEG images are compressed images and there is loss of information. Also, if you want to edit an image as a part of post processing then there isn't much option, if you have captured images using JPEG format. This is not the case with RAW images.
RAW images contains all information and is very helpful if you want to edit it using photo editors like Lightroom or Photoshop. More information means more memory consumption. Each RAW image will consume almost 30 MB of space where as JPEG - High image will consume around 10 MB space.
If you are running out of memory then you can use a built-in feature in your Nikon camera to convert RAW to JPEG. This camera software will convert RAW to JPEG and save your modified image as JPEG image along with RAW image. I would say, if the image is not so important then just keep the modified JPEG image and delete the RAW image to save memory. These converted files which are of JPEG High are of very good quality and is more than enough for you to share it on social media or with your friends or even to take normal prints.
amazing !!
