Must have Wordpress Security plugin for a website

Have your own blog or a website developed using Wordpress and not sure if your website is secure or not? Well, after the recent attack on Wordpress, security is a big concern for most of the website and blog owners. There were multiple updates made by Wordpress after this. There are many tools and plugins available online which can be used for Wordpress security and I have been experimenting with multiple Wordpress security plugins recently.

'Better WP Security' is one of the best security plugins which is freely available for download and you don't need to know any programming to understand this. All that you need to do is search for this plugin, install and activate this plugin. This Wordpress security plugin will automatically scan your Wordpress security loop holes and show the system status as shown below with the color coding. There are more than 21 checks which will be performed by this plugin as of this writing. The status marked in red will have to be fixed immediately and the one in green means your website is safe. Once the scan is completed which hardly takes any time, "Better Wordpress Security" plugin will not automatically fix; instead will ask website owner to fix each of the issues and is up to owner to fix it or not as some of the fix might effect other plugins which are already installed. The best thing is each of the issues that you have will be auto fixed without you getting into any of the coding or database part.

What this "Better Wordpress Security" plugin does is, it will remove some of the default settings. Example, database table name starts with "wp_" which will be replaced with it's own. It will hide all possible loop holes and vulnerabilities. In addition to hiding, it will also protect website by blocking users who are not allowed to there by securing your password and information. Even in the worst case, if this plugin fails to protect your website, it will continue to monitor your website and inform owner for any bots or other attempts to search for loop holes.

It's always better to backup your website data. There is a built-in feature to back-up your data in this plugin, where the backup data will be sent to your email regularly as scheduled in the plugin settings. Or you can even backup all or part of Wordpress website or data to your Dropbox account directly using another plugin.

Note that installing this plugin is not the end to Wordpress security attack. This plugin will help you be on safer side by fixing some of the most common loop holes. Also, you need not fix everything that is shown in red and make it to green status, depends on what other plugin you have installed in your website.
