We all get emails and some get lot of emails and we check this regularly. With the Android and other smart phones in the market, it has become even more easier for us to go through our email. If you are a desktop/laptop user then you might have seen that when you delete, archive or mute a conversation it will automatically take you to inbox. This can be annoying when you have lot of emails to check, and every time it takes you to inbox instead of the next Email.

By default in Gmail, when you delete, archive or mute a conversation it will take you to inbox instead of the next Email conversation. There is an option in Gmail Labs called 'Auto-advance' which has to be enabled. By enabling this option once you are done with an email conversation instead of taking you to inbox, it will take you to the next email conversation in the inbox list.

To enable this option, follow the following steps:
- Login to your Gmail account.
- Go to Gmail settings.
- Select 'Labs' option.
- Scroll down and enable the option with the name 'Auto-advance'.
- Click on 'Save changes' at the end.
- Now go to 'General' tab under Gmail Settings and there is a new option named 'Auto-advance'. Note that this option will not be visible by default. Only once 'Auto-advance' is enabled in Gmail Labs and the changes are saved, it will appear under General tab.
- Here, you can select whether to advance to the next or the previous email conversation or there is 1 more option which will take you back to inbox (default) settings.
- Save changes again. That's it.

Once it's done, your Gmail will auto refresh with all the changes saved. In the worst case your Gmail inbox might have trouble in loading. In which case just copy paste this link https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?labs=0 in the URL of your browser. This will disable all the Gmail Lab settings that were enabled and will look like your default settings.
