The total time spent in watching videos till date is always much better than the time spend on go through an article in your blog or a website. If you have a website and a YouTube channel with videos in it then using Google Analytics you can always check this stats to know how much time was spend on each of these. But what happens in YouTube or similar video service is once a video is watched, people just leave that site/video. YouTube has a feature called playlist using which video owners will create a list of videos which will play one after the other instead of some other video which is not yours.
One reason is, at the end of YouTube video it will suggest other videos which is not yours. So, when you embed a YouTube video there is an option which you need to enable so that once the video is played in your site, it will not suggest visitors to move out to other videos.
Second reason is, there is no playlist. By having a playlist people spend more time on your videos because once a video is played, the playlist will automatically show your next video. So, the next time you share your video on your site or blog or social media, share playlist instead of single video.

Adding a subscribe button is a good idea to increase your subscriber count and also to your revisiting of visitors will increase. This subscribe button can also act as watermark to your videos so that other cannot share your video.

Fourth, Add some good background music to your videos. I have seen many videos where you will hear traffic noise, wind blowing, other showing in the video. Instead, do a bit of editing using YouTube video editor and add music for free from YouTube to all your videos. Adding good background music make users stay on your video till the end of the video.

Fifth, say your video starts with a bit boring part initially but without that part in the video is like incomplete story. So, when you share videos ignore that part of the video and start from a particular time. If the video starts with a boring part then visitors might just leave your video.

Sixth, there are no annotations in the video or external links. When the video is being played, leave a link to another video of yours instead of just a plain video. Some believe that this might distract viewers. So, avoid using these links in the center portion of the video. Instead, place the links or images to one of the corners like footer or header.
