If you are using mobile data 2G, 3G or 4G plan on your mobile device, then it's always better to monitor mobile data usage so that you will know how much data you consume and upgrade your monthly data plan accordingly. Also, it's better to monitor mobile data usage for individual app to know exactly how much data is being consumed by individual app.

There are enough number of apps to monitor mobile data usage that are available for your mobile. If you are an Android user using Android version 4 and above then you don't need any of these apps as this feature is built-in feature and comes as part of the operating system and not as a separate app. So, you don't really need any third party app to monitor.
To monitor mobile data usage on your Android device follow the following steps:
- Go to Settings on your Android device.
- Go to 'Data Usage'.
- Enable/Check on 'Mobile Data'.
- Enable/Check on 'Set mobile data limit'.
- Now, set your monthly 'Data Usage cycle'.
- Also, set the warning and max limit of your data plan.
By following the last step as shown in the image here, your device will alert you once you reach the warning limit and will auto disable data network once the limit is reached. So, you don't have to monitor mobile data usage all the time. You can always manually enable the mobile data option once the limit is crossed, but the data usage charged might be high once you cross the limit.
I would recommend to turn off data usage manually when you have a 3G or 4G plans enabled else you might end up in paying high monthly bill. Also, if you have a 1 GB plan then I would say to stop using data plan once you have reached around 950-975 MB of data.
