How good is link building service using article directory

Link building service had become a big business. There are too many services where they promise to provide backlinks to your website from higher page rank websites. It might have worked for websites and blogs before, but now with the latest Google algorithm updates, this may not work any more. In the worst case, your website may even be penalized.

Many bloggers get articles to publish from article library. Article directory is where you write few 400 to 600 words article followed by a bio of yours with links and keyword rich anchor text at the bottom of the article. This article is then submitted to multiple article directories, where others can download for free or by paying for that article to use it in their website. This way, someone might find it useful and people might use links from relevant content in article directories. Specially those who are new to blogging, hoping that their article will get few backlinks when their article is used/ published by others in their website. This is more like a link building service provided by using article directories.

This proved good earlier but not now. Google doesn't recommend this. Article directories have got a bad name these days as it's being used as a good link building service. I don't say that all articles that are out there in the article directory are bad. There are few with really good content but most of them, majority are of poor content or spammy content and these articles are syndicated widely across the web so that many more people download the same article. This is not considered as an effective and good link building service. Specially with the latest Google algorithm updates like penguin, panda, hummingbird etc.

So, be careful when using or when submitting articles to link directories. Spamming will not help you, it might only bring down your website popularity. Better not to do this than screwing up your online website reputation.
