You might have seen images like the one shown here many times in your daily newspaper advertisements or on my Facebook page or on my Twitter account. Try scanning the code here using your device and that should take you to my Facebook page. The same way you too can create QR code for your website. Before going ahead with the generation of QR code lets understand how exactly it works.
The block of smaller black and white squares is read by your Android or iPhone's image sensor using apps like Bar-code scanner, QR Bar-code Scanner, scan etc. then interpreted by the system processor. The three large squares act as alignment targets, while the smaller square in the remaining corner acts to normalize the size and angle of the shot. This image basically has two regions, one is for formatting information and the other is the actual data that's converted into binary code and checked for errors before being displayed. The encoded data can be interpreted as one of four primary modes alphanumeric, byte/binary, Kanji and numeric.
QR code is being used everywhere from inventory tracking, on websites linking to their social sites, on business cards with Google Maps to find directions, automatically load a web page like how I have done on my Facebook page and twitter etc. The applications are too many. Below are few links where you can generate QR codes for free.
