How to maintain Firefox settings across multiple computers

firefox portableIf you are a fan of Firefox and have a hard time in maintaining it's preference then there is a workaround for this. To keep all your add-ons and maintain Firefox settings across multiple computers, you may download and use Firefox Portable.

Mozilla Firefox Portable edition is a very popular web browser which is bundled with Portable Apps launcher which will handle all your bookmarks, extensions and passwords for you and leaves no personal information behind on the machine that you have used. Portable Apps have got a good support site which will help you in installing, updating and troubleshooting. Using this app you can copy all your local Firefox settings to Firefox Portable and you are allowed to use multiple profiles. You even have an option to run from CD. With Firefox Portable installed, plugins work a bit in a different way than the regular Firefox. Some of the most common plugins which are supported by Firefox Portable include Java Runtime Environment, Flash Plugin, Shock-wave Plugin etc. Firefox Portable can identify on its own as to why things are slow when connected to USB drive and performs extremely well when connected to flash drives. The best thing is you can store Firefox Portable in Dropbox and use it as and when you need it. Give it a try and let me know by leaving a comment.

  1. Does it support all the plugins? Or is there any compatibility issue? I'm mainly interested about the Firebug plugin.

  4. I doubt if all are supported as of now.. plugins for Firefox Portable work a bit differently when compared to the regular Firefox.
