How good is guest blogging for your blog

You might have seen blogs where there will be banners saying 'we accept guest blogging' or some blogs don't highlight that but they do accept guest blogging. I myself have received many requests where people are interested in writing guest post for my blog. If you are a blogger then you must be familiar with guest blogging and you might even know why people request for and accept guest blogging. If you are a publisher then you need to know the good and bad part of guest blogging. Also, there has been an increase in poor quality guest blogging these days.

If you are not sure then here are few reasons why people write quest blogging. Guest posts are usually written so that the owner of the site where the post is published will get more traffic and by writing quality content, will always bring more organic traffic from search engine and hence more money through ads. There are really good bloggers who are interested in writing very good quality content for your blog and there are many more who write just to get too many backlink to their blog or increase their popularity or sometimes earn for writing a guest post. The reason why you need to be careful is Google's latest algorithm might track all these. It might consider guest blogging as pay for links website.

Let me speak about the bad part. You need to be careful while accepting guest post as the content might have been copied from else were. Also, quality content matters and not just writing a post. Without quality content you will only end up in high bounce rate and low traffic. These are the bad authors who write guest post for backlinks or money. The topic that they write doesn't really match with the topic or the blog post heading, usually off topic, irrelevant blog posts - which can easily drive away visitors. There might be keyword rich anchor text in the post that they write. Also, usually these blogger keep writing posts frequently on all topics without any good quality content. They might guest blog on the same topic but slightly modified content and usually these people send lot of invites requesting to write a post for you and other similar bloggers.

The good part is if the guest blogger is a subject matter expert on a particular subject, then in the post there will be a small paragraph written about this author on what his area of expertise or interest is. You can easily make out. Usually expert/good guest bloggers will be expert in one subject and they usually do not prefer writing topics or blog post which is not related to their topic. The knowledge on a particular topic is clearly visible in the way how they write their blog post. Also, these guest blogger's website will be related to the topic they write and they go very deep into the subject.

Simple example would be something like - you having a technology blog where all your posts are related to the latest on technology and what if there is a guest post about fashion design with too many backlinks. This will clearly indicate that its out of topic and looks very much like pay for links blog. Also, if you check their website or blog it will have all kind of topics and contents.

This is the main reason why I do not accept guest posts here as most of them just ask for too many backlinks. They promise  good quality and unique content but when I check in the internet for the topic and content, it will usually be a copied content which is hard to identify sometimes. And if you have accepted this post and is live then someone might raise a DMCA complaint against your blog saying it's a copied content. Google might penalize such blogs for having copied content and hence low organic traffic. It will be a tedious task to clean up your blog later on, so better to keep your site clean right from the beginning.
