I have see many profiles and pages on Facebook where the cover photo will be focused to some other part of the body or the main portion in the photo is not in the place where it actually is intended to be. I 'm very much surprised to see many even don't about this simple feature that's available to reposition cover photo on Facebook.
When you import an image, Facebook will usually compress the image which bring down the quality (as of this writing) of the image to reduce space. And this image will appear in one of the album where you have uploaded. You have an option to make the photo that you have uploaded as cover photo or you can directly upload a new photo as cover photo. When you save a photo as cover photo, this photo is saved just like any other photo but the way how it's displayed is different.
Cover photo is rectangular and the width is much higher than the normal photos. So, a photo which is square in shape when uploaded will show only the center portion of the photo. The top and bottom parts of the photo is clipped of from displaying. The actual image is not clipped, instead the display window where the cover shot is shown has a different dimension and hence the top and bottom portion of the image appear as though it's gone.
The below image shows my Facebook profile before and after repositioning.
I see many profiles and pages have photos as shown above in the first half. People upload image and then just forget to reposition cover photo on Facebook. Not sure if they are not aware of this repositioning feature. This is a simple feature and easy to use. Once you upload an image or select an image as cover photo. Go to your profile and hover over your cover photo and to the right you will see 'Change cover' option. Click on it and a dropdown will appear and one of the options will be 'reposition..'. Click on it and you can now move the image up and down or right and left. Then click on 'Save Changes' once done. If the image size and resolution is high then you might reconsider to bring down the image size or re-size the image before uploading, the reason being high quality image might go out of the frame.
