You might have seen YouTube videos shown on social media like Facebook, Google Plus etc. shows a thumbnail on YouTube with a small brief description and when clicked will open YouTube video. But many a times I have seen these thumbnails which are not related to the content or blur kind of thumbnail or not so good thumbnail. By default when you upload a video on YouTube, there are three options and you need to pick one of the thumbnails. Again, the middle one will be selected as a default choice. But what if you do not like any of these three thumbnails and want to change or customize it the way you want it to.

Here is why you need to upload your own thumbnail on YouTube instead of the auto generated ones. Having custom thumbnail on YouTube videos will help you create an image that will very much relate to the content or video's subject matter. What YouTube does is it randomly captures three shots from your video, which not too many people like. Thumbnail on YouTube plays an important role because this is what will attract users and having a white or black or blurry thumbnail will only drive users away. Best thing to do is grab a screenshot from your video or a photo and upload it on any of the photo editing tools. Modify the image by increasing colors, having bold characters etc. so that you bring the viewer's eye to your thumbnail and make them watch your video.

Luckily, YouTube has given that option to upload your own customized image file as thumbnail for your uploaded video. You always have the option to remove, update or change this thumbnail later on and set a new one. The maximum file size that is allowed is 2 MB. Make good use of this feature that is available on YouTube and get more viewers.
