Here is what you need to know - Blogger Vs Wordpress.com

Before I answer on why Blogger is better than Wordpress.com, note that i'm speaking about Wordpress.com and not Wordpress.org. Wordpress.com is a free service with limited options that are available as a blogger. I use both blogger for my photography blog and Wordpress for this blog of mine. And here are few reasons why I like blogger better than Wordpress. There is always a debate  on Blogger Vs Wordpress and this is what bloggers need to know before making the right choice if you do not want invest anything initially on writing blog.

Blogger Vs Wordpress.com

1. Integration with GoogleYour .blogspot blog integrated well with Google without the addition of any major code or plugin. All that you need to do is just sign-up for blogger and just starting writing good quality post without bothering much about the initial setup.

2. Customize layout the way you want - You can customize the layout of blogger the way you want. The width can be adjusted without bringing down the live environment. Also, while adjusting the width of your widgets and your entire blog you get to the live preview.

3. Widget placement - Most of the wordpress themes have just the right bar and not much customization of widgets where as in blogger you can add widgets in almost all possible places in and around blog post.

4. Photos stored in picasa can  be used in Blog post - Pictures that you have already uploaded in picasa/google plus can be used in the blog post and not separate image management is needed like how we do in Wordpress.

5. Allows ads and your own code to be placed - Doesn't allow you to ad code so, placing an ad code is not possible at all in Wordpress.com. So, if you want to make money out of your blog then switch to your own wordpress.org website or blogger or one of your own.

6. Old and is by Google - Blogger is older than Wordpress and has few add-ins by Google. There are more add-ins by Google to blogger than for Wordpress that are available.

7. Monetize with Adsense - Getting adsense approval as  Google partner is easier than getting approval for an outside website. Also, Wordpress.com doesn't allow monetizing other than their own ad network that too you need to have high traffic to get approval.

8. No modification needed to submit it to Google - No special sitemap or submission needed using any sort of plugin needed.

9. Rename your blog if u want - You have the option to change the blog name anytime without loosing the content and you don't have to delete it's content. But note that already indexed pages will create issues with the change of domain name. Recommended not to do this.

 10. Comment is using Google plus - Recently Google release an update where the comments section in your blogger post and also in YouTube is using visitor's Google account. This is a very good way to avoid spam. So, no special plugin needed for custom comment or to avoid spam.

11. Google Authorship - When you sign-in using your Google account to blogger. That's it. You don't have to worry about adding code or a plugin to show to search engines that you are the author and install any Google Authorship plugin.

12. Theme available - There are just too many themes available within the blogger and also from various third party themes, most of them for free.

13. Security - You don't have to worry much about security settings or plugins. All that you need to do is just login and logout of your Google account. You do not have to worry about someone modifying your file modification like the wp-config file or htaccess.php files in Wordpress. All these are taken care by Google for you.

14. No Backup Needed - As long as blogger is with Google you don't have to worry about backup of your blog data like how we do in Wordpress.org. where as all data will be saved within Wordpress.com

15. Optimizing Database - You don't have to worry about optimizing database. Most of the things are maintained and taken care by Google.

Update:

16. Google Analytics - As of this writing there is no support of Google analytics on Wordpress.com. This is not the case with Blogger. Note that you can add plugin for Wordpress.org. Wordpress has got it's own inbuilt analytics tools but this cannot be compared with Google analytics as google analytics provides far more details.

If blogger were to have more plugins then I would say, blogger will continue to be on top. I continue to use both blogger and Wordpress and enjoy the new features and updates of both.
