How to reply to messages on your blog comment box

I have seen many blogs where blog owners or content creators reply to each and every message in their comment box, which is good. But once they become popular or after few months of blogging, they are either too busy to reply or they just ignore it. Blog owners will have some spam filters enabled and will approve all other messages in comment box without any reply to these messages.

There are few things that you need to keep in mind if you want your blog to go a long way or atleast till your blog becomes very popular. You can do any of the following and it's totally up to you to decide what you want you want to do:

  • Completely ignore your comment box. Just install some spam filters which will remove all links and just approve all non-spam messages. You don't reply to any of the messages and directly approve. I recommend doing this if your messages are like: 'Thank You', 'Wonderful', 'Amazing Shot'. Many leave a comment of this type. Also, I have seen few bloggers write it just to get backlinks through comments, which is not a very good idea. If you are using some social media comment box (like the one we have for blogger, which has google plus for commenting), then you may leave a +1 or a like.

  • Replying to a comment in your blog is a good option. Say, you have a blog and I comment asking you a question. And you reply just below my comment with a solution which is visible publicly to all visitors. This will help other visitors who have the same question. It will help other visitors but the person who asked this question (i.e, myself) will not get your reply unless I have subscribed to your comment.

your blog comment box

  • Replying by Email is another good option. You are sure that your visitor will get reply to the question that he/she had asked, provided they give the right email address. Also you can add customized Email signature which can bring back traffic to your website in the form of revisits. Note that by replying to email and not replying to comment box might not look good to other visitors and also others might ask you the same question again and again.

  • Both replying and Email to your visitors who have commented. This option would be ideal but might consume more time of yours.

You can add thank you page to your blog like mine. Also, in the same thank you page it's good to gives users an option to subscribe to your blog to get latest updates and also your website social links so that they can follow. Getting involved in replying to your comment box will sometimes get you into a discussion, will also help you in writing new posts and sharing other old posts of yours there by linking within your blog. Let me know what you do with the comments.
