Want to share an interesting YouTube video of yours with your friends or embed YouTube video to your website or blog, there are multiple ways to do that. But what if you want to share a YouTube video starting from a specific time by skipping the first few seconds or minutes.
Say, you have uploaded a video of 3 minutes, and the first few seconds of this video is not that interesting and you want to share this video with your friends or embed this video to your blog or website. There is a way in YouTube to jump start video from a specific time. By doing so, you can directly skip to the important part of the video.
Here is the video that I have uploaded to YouTube and this video will start from 00:00 seconds. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MdDDXTQBRw
But I want my friends and other viewers to skip the first 29 seconds and watch it from 0:30 seconds. All that you need to do is add "#t=00m30s" to the end of above URL. You can always change the minute and seconds here to adjust as per your need. When you share YouTube video by embedding this video, you can do the same as shown below by adding the same to the end of URL mentioned in the code.
The above image is from my YouTube account and the uploaded video shot by me is of Musical Fountain, JP Park, Bangalore.
This is useful when you are share and embed YouTube videos on your website and blogs. The reason is viewers will not go through the entire video unless it's interesting. So, what if you have a video where the first few seconds isn't that interesting? You can always edit or cut this part of the video, but sometimes you may not have an option to delete these first few seconds as it may not complete the story. In such cases, you can have the video and jump start from a specific time.

ReplyDeleteIs it hard to set up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I'm thinking about creating my own but
I'm not sure where to start. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Appreciate it
There are free blogs like wordpress and blogspot. If you want something of your own then you can go ahead and purchase your own domain and hosting. Once you do that.. you need to develop website or use some of the standard templates or again wordpress like mine.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't work anymore. Neither does the Copy URL at specific time. Not on my latest Chrome anyway. (As of September 2013)
ReplyDeleteNo Jeff. It still works.
ReplyDeleteAll that you need to do is add “#t=” to a video’s embed code, followed by the time at which you’d like the video to begin playing.
It does not work for me with embed link, only with the normal.
ReplyDeleteIt apparently changed at some point to ?start=278&end=490 it seems only seconds work. You don't need to add "s" for seconds and you can leave out the &end=
ReplyDeleteActually it really is broken for embeds. Note the Google developers blog regarding start: "Values: A positive integer. This parameter causes the player to begin playing the video at the given number of seconds from the start of the video." Search for that in bit quotes and you should find the link. The way to do it now is ?start=278 and the number is seconds and only seconds seems to work.
