Have connected to a remote desktop using Windows remote desktop connection? Even though this is an old feature for Windows users, many still wonder how to share files between the remote desktop and the host computer. I have seen many people who login to remote desktop and try to transfer files by copying files from remote desktop, then try to paste the file in host computer. But, the paste just doesn't work.
To enable paste and enable file sharing between the host and remote desktop, there is an option which has to be enabled first. Follow the following steps to enable file sharing:
- Click on the default Windows Remote Desktop Connection.
- In the pop-up, click on 'local resources' tab.
- Under 'Local devices and resources' click on 'More'.
- There will be another pop-up window, expand it to view all the local drives in your host computer.
- Select the drive that you would like to place the shared files.
- Click OK and then connect by entering the user name and password.
- Now the copy paste across local/host and remote computer will work.
Remember that this is a two way connection. So, you can transfer files from local to remote as well as remote to local computer. Also, sometimes it might ask for admin access to transfer files. Remember that the above steps have to be followed before connecting to the remote server.
