It's nice to see your blog or website traffic growing, but did you ever try to understand your website traffic? I have been monitoring my blog traffic for a while now and as shown in the graph/image below, my blog traffic used to go up and down just like any other blog everyday. But as you can see in the image below traffic on weekends used to go down when compared to weekdays.

In the last month I have managed to write one blog post a day and share that on all social media possible like Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, Digg and few more. 87 percent of the website traffic that I get is from Google and all are organic traffic. The remaining is from direct traffic or less than one percent from social media. That's about my website traffic source as of this writing.

Even though I posted one post a day and shared it on equal number of times on social media the traffic used to vary. Why? That too on weekend there used to be a dip where as from Monday to Friday till will be high. Also, I did a small survey with know people and the reply that I got were interesting.
Some told me that they don't check their computer on weekend. Many told me that they access or search my website when they are at office. Because mine is a How-To blog people might not share the content as they are looking for a solution or to solve a problem, where as my other blog (http://rjoisa.blogspot.in/) is related to photos that I have clicked and photography tips. Photos are something that most of us like and love to share. So, the traffic on this website is totally different. Again the traffic for my photography blog is higher on weekdays and low on weekends - thanks to the jobless people at office ;)

So, if you are wondering when to publish your blog post then I would say sometime during weekdays so that you get more traffic, re-shares on social media etc. And to maintain the same website traffic on weekends like how it is on weekdays try publishing more number of articles/blog post, maybe instead of one increase it to two. Getting a topic to write a blog post is another pain and it takes few hours to write one of your own. If you are having tough time with that then try sharing your old articles again on social media, may two to three times a day. This way you will not see a dip in website traffic on weekends.

Hi Ravi,
ReplyDeleteToday morning I was thinking about the same. and I was thinking why my traffic goes low on weekends !! Do you recommend 2 articles on weekends or everyday ? You know one blog post takes about 2-3 hours for me :(
Lol.. same is the case here. I tried writing multiple articles on weekend. This might help if you have more traffic from social media. Most of the traffic (87%) is from Google search so.. it doesn't work for me. It depends on your website. I would suggest to experiment on own with your website. Try this for a month and use google analytics to understand and write post accordingly. Thanks btw for visiting and commenting on my blog post.
ReplyDeleteRavi, to add to the woes my google authorhsip image has disappeared in search results though it shows verified authorship in webmaster. Do you know the cause ?
ReplyDeleteNeed more details, do you use any Wordpress plugin to do that. Do you have a code something like 'rel=author' placed some where in the code ? This code should be enough.
ReplyDeleteGreat knowledge, do anyone mind merely reference back to it
