Why is it important to add Subscribe via Email option to your website

You might have seen websites and blog where they ask you to follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and may other social media. They request you to share on social media to get more traffic out of it to their website. Social media plays an important role, but we cannot ignore the important of the old form of reaching users via Email.

If you look at my blog, in the right sidebar/footer there is a subscribe via email option that I have left. You can enter your email ID and then confirm to the email you get. Once confirmed you get regular and latest updates on How-To Tips. I have seen many blog ignoring this and add only social media buttons to gain more followers.

Sometime back before we had Facebook, Google Plus or Twitter; Email was one of the most widely used method to bring back regular visitors. Even today much more than social media, Email plays an important role. The reason is simple - once you subscribe to my email alerts, you get an email with my latest blog post as soon as it's published. Same is the case with Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus but the difference between the two is Email will stay in the inbox where as Social media updates don't.

Consider Twitter for example. Once you post a tweet , for how long will it appear in the front page of your follower? That too if your follower is following few hundreds or thousands then your update will not even remain in the main page for few seconds. So, don't expect your follower to keep a track of each of your post and whatever will appear in the front page will be viewed. Your follower might scroll down to see the other posts, but he will also get an alert saying there are many latest new updates and new tweets will flow continuously.

Here I have given a simple example on what will happen to your post/tweet in Twitter. Same is the case with Facebook or Google Plus or any of the social media posts that you update. The post that you update will be visible to users only for a while and after the first few seconds or minutes it will just disappear in the list of other posts. Unless your tweet is tweeted multiple times by others, or your Facebook or Google Plus posts get too many likes or +1's or shares and for this to happen you know how hard it is.

With Email subscription you can are sure that your post update is be made visible to visitor/subscriber. It's up to the user to view or discard. But there are much higher chances that the visitor will check that post of yours and also these visitors will not get distracted with too many other posts. So, if you are a blog ow website owner then do not forget to add 'Subscribe via Email' option and also don't completely discard social media buttons. Instead of having huge follow boxes, maybe you can leave a small group of buttons to follow on different social media.

  4. Not sure about that, but don't get fooled with some of the online ads where they promise you to get more subscribers. Your subscriber count might increase, but these may not be quality subscribers which means they may not even visit your website when you send out new update emails. There are many fake IDs created just to show to customers that these are the new users who have subscribed to your website and also, to make money out of these ads. Be careful.
